Wow I haven't updated my progress report in forever!!! There are a few reasons - I forgot for awhile, then I was too lazy, then I stopped going to the ortho for several months because I moved then and went on a few trips, and then I got sick of thinking about my braces. Sorry I've neglected the report, but I'm back!!! Let me start with how my teeth are now - I don't "love" how they look but feel like they are about as good as they can get right now, so I don't really have anymore adjustments planned. I am just planning on keeping my braces as they are until I'm ready to take them off. I am afraid to take them off but now they have to come off eventually!!! They've been on so long for several reasons: I switched orthos a few months after I got the braces, and I think that slowed down everything by several months, my current ortho is not very good, and it's taken forever for him to get on the same page as me and make my teeth how they should be (in my mind), and I'm not really in a hurry to get my braces off since I have gotten so used to them and am afraid that once the braces are off my teeth will just revert to how they were pre-braces, and that would realllly realllly suck! And I'm afraid to get the braces off since a lot of people have said they don't want me to take them off, although I've gotten just as many requests from people that want them off so I can start on the retainer pictures.
I still plan on taking tons and tons more braces pictures and videos before they come off, which is another reason why I'm not rushing. However, I think 3 years will be long enough (since I know it's not good on my teeth and gums to have them on forever), so I'm planning on getting them off at the beginning of summer, and then I'll start on the retainer pictures, and will continue to find other girls with braces for you. I also want to personally shoot local girls with braces (since I think I can do a better job photography-wise than a lot of people on the internet), but I can't really afford to pay people much, so that's my current dilema. My website doesn't really make much money, and if I paid girls, I would be spending all the money on that, and I am already super poor, so what should I do?????
Whew! Okay so I haven't been going to the ortho as often as before, and even took a four month break from going!!! I've had like every color on my teeth now that the ortho has to offer, so I've had some duplicate colors of rubberbands and powerchains - pink, purple, blue, white, and some different top and bottom combos. My favorite is still pink and purple, so I've been mostly sticking with that lately. Oh and I know you're not supposed to, but I've been doing Crest Whitestrips for a few weeks, so my teeth are whiter and brighter. At my recent visits, the ortho changed the wire strength once more, did a few tiny bends in the wire to straighten out a few things, and that's about it, although I know I'm forgetting a few of the things he did. The ortho still likes to kid me that I'm "difficult" but I don't know if he's really kidding! I've still been wearing the elastics a lot.

The other major problem I've had lately is TMJ! One of the reasons I got braces was because my bite was messed up, and I would clench my teeth at night. This is bad for your teeth, and it would cause headaches. Well once I got the braces the TMJ almost totally went away, so I was so happy that I was right and that the braces fixed me! Well now the TMJ is back and worse than ever!!!! I don't know if it's from the braces, from my bite not being right (even though my dentist and ortho thinks it looks good), or if it's from stress. The elastics also don't help with the TMJ, but I'm afraid to not wear them, since I want my bite to be as closed as possible - but maybe I'm overdoing it? I don't know. My dentist is no help since he doesn't know anything about TMJ. The TMJ is causing major problems - neck and back pain, which has been constant for several months now, crackling and popping when I open and close my mouth, and ear pain and ringing in my ears, which will not go away! I even went to an ear doctor because I was so worried, but he said there's nothing he can do since he agrees I have TMJ and my hearing itself is fine and not affected. Ugh!!! Then all this pain is stressing me out more since I'm afraid it will never go away.
So you would think when I get the braces off and get retainers things will be better with the TMJ, but I'm not sure sure. The ortho wants me to then wear the retainers 24/7 and you can't wear a mouthguard over the retainers (or over braces), so that option is out. I also don't really think it's the braces that are causing the TMJ. In the meantime I've just been trying to exercise as much as I can since I don't know what else to do. I would consider seeing a TMJ doctor, but my dentist warned me that most of them are "quacks" and are also really expensive. I've been researching it on the internet and trying to figure out what to do. It's realllly, reallllly bad, and I just keep hoping it will go away on its own. Oh and I just bought a new pillow (one of those memory foam ones) and that's helped a little bit. Maybe I need one of those $1000 beds?
I don't even have my next ortho appointment scheduled, but I will probably only go once or twice more. My ortho said I could get the braces off now, or he doesn't care if I keep them on longer. I just told him I'm paranoid about getting them off and that I'm afraid my teeth will revert. He says he doesn't think they will, but that a lot of people are the same way as me, so he's used to people not wanting to get their braces off as soon as possible. Of course most of his patients are dying to de-brace, and a lot do so before their teeth are finished!!
If you are worried about me getting my braces off, don't worry! I will still have tons of pictures for you, plus retainer pictures, plus pics of other girls, so it will almost be even better than ever for you!!!
